Taylor Boatbuilding Program

The Taylor Boatbuilding Program engages youth and community members in the hands-on craft of building wooden boats while exploring the Hudson River and local maritime heritage. Through this unique experience, participants gain practical skills, confidence, and a deeper sense of connection to community and environment.

What Participants Learn

  • How to use tools and develop woodworking skills.

  • Measuring, sawing, and painting techniques

  • Teamwork and leadership through shared projects

  • Environmental awareness and respect for the Hudson Valley waterfront

  • Confidence, character, and career pathways

  • Plus plenty of fun on and off the water!

Why It Matters

The Taylor Boatbuilding Program blends craftsmanship, STEM learning, and environmental education. Students reinforce school subjects like math, technology, and ecology while building self-esteem and discovering new opportunities.

“The participants learn as much about themselves as they do about woodworking.”
