About Us

Peek Skills is a community organization dedicated to teaching practical skills, building confidence, and strengthening connections across generations. Rooted in Peekskill’s rich history of craftsmanship and river life, we offer hands-on programs that challenge young people and adults to learn, grow, and lead.

Our programs blend woodworking, boatbuilding, seamanship, and personal development with the values of respect, responsibility, and resilience. Whether it’s building a boat in the Rising Tide program, sailing with Sea Scouts, or crafting with hand tools in Sloyd Youth Woodworking, participants gain more than technical know-how—they discover confidence, independence, and pride in their accomplishments.

At PeekSkills, we believe that learning by doing brings out the best in people. By trusting participants with real tools, holding them to high standards, and letting them experience success through effort, we nurture skills that last a lifetime. Our programs also highlight the importance of community and environment, connecting people to each other and to the Hudson River that has long defined our city.

Together, we’re building boats, building skills, and building community
